Bicycle Shop Opens in Highland Park

By Wayne Sheets Contributing Business Writer

Elkins' newest bicycle sales and repair shop opened on Aug. 18. Joey's Bike Shop, owned and operated by Joey Riddle, is located at 101 Johnson Ave., in Highland Park.

According to Riddle, he has been working on bikes of all makes and models since graduation from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1996.

"I worked for Fat Tire Cycle for seven years before its owner closed the Elkins store," Riddle said. "When I lost my job with Fat Tire, my wife and I decided to leave Elkins, but we couldn't find a buyer for our home.

"That turned out to be our good fortune, I suppose, because we didn't want to leave Elkins anyway," Riddle said. "So I decided since Elkins and the surrounding area doesn't have a bike repair facility, I would open my own."

Joey's Bike Shop is located just 300 yards from the Allegheny Highlands Rail Trail, and Riddle says that makes it convenient for people who might have a bike problem, or simply wish to come by for a visit.

"I am negotiating with the KHS Bicycle Company for the right to be a dealer for their line of bikes," Riddle said. "We should have all the necessary arrangements completed within the next two weeks."

According to promotional information, the KHS Bicycle Co. is headquartered in Rancho Dominquez, Calif., and bills itself as the "Biggest Little Bicycle Company in the World." It manufactures road, track, mountain, tandem, folding, cruiser and youth bicycles as well as Manhattan Cruisers and Free Agent BMX bikes.

"With the many years of experience in sales and repair of bicycles that I have, I look forward to serving the biking needs of our community and surrounding area," Riddle said.

The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Saturdays hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shop is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. Appointments may be made for the days that the shop is closed and after regular business hours.

For more information, call Joey's Bike Shop at 636-0219.

Dusty Davis...

Never thought I would be using the words "dusty" and "Davis" in the same sentence but there it is. I have never seen the Davis area trails so dry. I love Davis. Definiltly the best riding WV has to offer. There is a great array of trail options right from the front door of Blackwater Bikes. I have been riding in Davis now for 15 years and it never gets old. Mandi, John and I met up with a few other( Ashlon, oldnoob, outdoor nut, malibu and few other that I didn't catch there names or assumed internet names) oh yeah and Jason Cyr. We headed out on Canaan mountain and had a big old time. Eventually we all got seperated with Mandi, Johns and I heading out for a bit longer ride. Don't really feel much like typing anymore. Check out the blurry pics. I know I need a new camera its on its last legs even though its only a few months old.

Peace, JOEY.

The Matrix & Other 9/11 Hollywood Symbolism

JonesReport.com | August 18, 2008

Insiders love bragging to one another about being on the inside-- perhaps that's one explanation for an abundance of illuminati symbolism in mainstream media and corporate logos.

Among the interesting references to 9/11 that have been uncovered in media released before 9/11 is a passport for 'Neo' in blockbuster film The Matrix, released in 1999.

The passport-- in Neo's file-- shows an expiration date of '11 SEP 01,' seemingly now an eerie coincidence found in the smallest of details.

CLICK HERE TO SEE FULL SIZED FRAME

Further, the 10-year passport shows an issue date of '12 SEP 91'-- only one day after George H.W. Bush's haunting September 11, 1991 speech before Congress where he called for, in no uncertain terms, a New World Order (and before that on Sept. 11, 1990) . Indeed, September 11 proves to be an important occultic date/number to the elites.

Coincidence or not, the Wachowski brothers, the film's directors, have proven to be obviously knowledgeable about a number of esoteric meanings-- not only do both The Matrix trilogy and V for Vendetta contain plotlines laden with occult symbolism, but its imagery is also textured throughout these films.

The Simpsons, "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson" Orig. airdate September 21, 1997 [wiki]

Such pre-9/11 coincidences are prevalent elsewhere in the media as well. For instance, a 1997 episode of the Simpsons shows Lisa holding an ad for a $9 bus trip to New York with the towers interestingly juxtaposed next to the 9, portraying the image of 9/11.

The pilot episode for 'The Lone Gunmen' (an X-Files spin off) featured an extremely eerie plot where a government faction posing as terrorists hijack a 727 by remote control and attempt to fly it into the World Trade Center-- the episode aired on March 4, 2001-- some 6 months before the 9/11 attacks.

From the pilot for 'The Lone Gunmen' - Orig. airdate March 4, 2001

The series' star, Dean Haglund, has previously appeared on the Alex Jones Show to discuss the odd coincidence.

"Part of the plot, as it said in the script was that this event would be used to start an international war on terror." Haglund commented.

Interestingly, Haglund also revealed that representatives of the FBI and NASA would frequently approach X-Files series creator Chris Carter with plots for stories and noted also that CIA and other government officials frequented Hollywood parties to plant script ideas.

It is well-known that the Pentagon has a heavy influence in most big budget military films-- trading access to bases, planes and other equipment for heavily influence and control of the message in scripts-- and it is clear that such government forces meddle in other areas of media as well.

Obscure 9/11 references before the fact: File it under 'things that make you go hmmm' because it certainly wasn't bin Laden who put those references there.

Went for a ride or money sucks...

with Mandena,

Butch,

Dave,

Mike Miller,
and Captain Morgan.

It was a leisurely four hour affair on a beautiful blue bird day. Took the crew out on some of local Randolph county single/doubletrack. Butch and Dave were pretty fun. There definitely noobys but there getting there. There pretty good at synchronized endoing. Sorry Mike for all the hike a bikes, hope your ankle is ok.

Next up on the racing agenda, nothing. Probably will not race again this year. Maybe the Revenge, will see. Pretty bummed about missing the Shenandoah MT 100. I have a score to settle with that one after being forced to DNF last year. Racing costs lots of money and when you do not have lots of money other things like eating and paying house payments take precedent. Mandi is loosing her job come October and the "bike shop" is not going to pay the bills. So its time to start the job hunt again. It really sucks. Both of us have pretty much spent the last 8 years of our lives working in a bike shop and riding bikes. Neither of us have a speciality degree in anything or specialized training of any sort. We know how to ride all day, work on bikes and sell bikes. Its like starting all over again. I am sick of starting over. We have been starting over a lot lately. Its exciting in some ways but also very nerve racking. I just want a good night sleep and a paycheck. But I do not want to work at WalMarts. WalMarts(China central) is the biggest employer in Randolph county. WTF. I can not work somewhere that I refuse to shop. That also goes for fast food joints and Pharmacies. Sorry for all the ranting. Must keep a positive attitude and believe that everything will work out for the best.

Peace and Love, JOEY.

Ron Paul on the Housing Bill

The only person in DC that knows exactly whats going on and how to correct it. Ron should be our next president but the American sheeple can't get there heads far enough out of there asses to realize that they are being manipulated and lied to. McCain and Obama are make believe canidates fabricated by the bought and paid for mass media in this country. There both a couple flip flopping hand puppets being controlled by some very evil people. McCain=Kessinger. Obama=Brzeznski. Do your home work people. Rant over. Everybody can go back to drinking there fluoridated water and slurping there diet pop now.

Almost there...

The bike racing season is nearing completion. Only a few more races to do, one or maybe two normal length WVMBA races plus a couple bonus Ultras. This past weekend was the 22nd Black Bear 40ish k. It was Mandi and my 11th Black Bear in a row and I must say the races just keeps getting harder. Every year more climbing and more gnarly descents. This year was the best BB course yet. The descents were all super washed out. The ruts were a little deeper, the drops little bigger. I definitely had a little more fear in me this year than I have in last 11 years. My arms are still weak and those downhills are long. Mandi and I arrived about 45 minutes before the start zipped through the super fast registration and suited up to race. I started in the back, started very slow and worked my way forward. Raced on the SS in the SS class. Picked off a few SS on the first climb after flipping over the bars whilst going up hill. Found my self in 3rd place(ss) after the first descent. Passed Robby L. on the next climb rode pretty hard and made him pop. Up, Down another Up, start seeing Mr. Benji. Hit middleridge trail hammer down the next descent hit hoffman and start looking for Mr. Bianchi. Up, Up, round some corners there he is. Benji is walking. I ride of to the edge of the gravel and place a tree between me and Benji's line of sight. Sneak attack, surprise, he didn't even see me coming. Cruise past Mr. Unbeatable drop the hammer and set my sight on Jeremy R. Catch him at the base of the hike, chat for a bit and pass him on one of the rollers before the brake burning wildcat descent. So by the end 1st ss(five minutes clear of Benji) 5th overall. Finally feel as if my racing legs may be making a come back. Mandi to had a great race scoring a big W. She said she felt great floating over the rocks and dancing up the climbs.

Anti-War Website Operator Threatened By Armed Thugs

Harassment

The operator of a leading alternative news and strongly anti-war website has become the target of nefarious thugs apparently in the employ of the U.S. government who have continually harassed him and ordered him to shut down his website.

Tom Feeley, owner and editor of Information Clearing House.info, has endured public harassment, home invasions, death threats and threats to his family simply for running a website.

Counterpunch writer Mike Whitney has circulated an e mail describing what happened to Feeley in an attempt to draw attention to the matter.

Whitney writes that earlier this week Feeley’s wife was startled to suddenly discover three well dressed men standing in her kitchen who told her that Tom must “Stop what he is doing on the Internet, NOW!”

To emphasize the point, the thug pulled back his jacket to reveal a gun while barking out the warning.

Tom’s wife was hysterical and refuses to go back to the house. She contacted the FBI but was told there was nothing they could do.

According to Whitney, “The well-dressed man told Tom’s wife that he knew where her son lived, what line of work he was in, and how many children he had.”

Subsequently, two men in a parked car a block from Tom’s mother’s house were spotted using laptops and sped off when they were approached by Tom’s son.

A similar incident had happened four years previously, when Feeley was approached by a stranger in the parking lot of Long’s Drug store in Southern California, after being forced to remain in his car by an accomplice who blocked him from opening the car door. The man told him, “You need to stop what you are doing on the web”.

Tom said the man was overweight and had his shirt untucked. Tom was taken aback, but (after collecting himself said) “What the fuck? Who do you think you are telling me what I can do?”

The man answered, “Tom, I’m just giving you some good advice. You should take my advice, Tom.”

I’ll tell you this about Tom Feeley; he is no bullshitter,” writes Whitney, “He is the “real deal” and completely committed to exposing the mob that is presently running our country. He does not understand why, (as he says) “They are reaching down SO far to get someone who just runs web site”. But, the truth is, they are. Someone wants him to “shut up” and they apparently have the muscle to do it. He knows he is in danger.”

Feeley is ditching his cellphone and maintaining a low profile but to his credit, refuses to cave in to the threats and will continue to publish his website.

Drawing attention to Feeley’s situation is of paramount importance to ensure his protection and also to combat head on attempts to create a chilling atmosphere and intimidate journalists and website publishers.

Mayor wants federal probe after SWAT raids house, kills dogs

(CNN) -- A Maryland mayor is asking the federal government to investigate why SWAT team members burst into his home without knocking and shot his two dogs to death in an investigation into a drug smuggling scheme.

Berwyn Heights, Maryland, Mayor Cheye Calvo comforts wife Trinity Tomsic at a news conference Thursday.

"This has been a difficult week and a half for us," Cheye Calvo, mayor of Berwyn Heights, Maryland, said Thursday. "We lost our family dogs. We did it at the hands of sheriff's deputies who burst through our front door, rifles blazing."

The raid last week was led by the Prince George's County Police Department, with the sheriff's special operations team assisting, after a package of marijuana was sent to Calvo's home.

Authorities say the package was part of a scheme in which drugs are mailed to unknowing recipients and then intercepted.

Calvo said he had just returned home from walking his two Labrador retrievers, Chase and Payton, when his mother-in-law told him a package had arrived for his wife, Trinity Tomsic.

Moments later, Calvo was in his room changing for a meeting when he heard commotion downstairs.

"The door flew open," he said. "I heard gunfire shoot off. There was a brief pause and more gunfire."

Calvo said he was brought downstairs at gunpoint in his boxer shorts, handcuffed and forced onto the floor with his mother-in-law near the carcass of one of dead dogs. Video Watch Calvo describe the raid »

"I noticed my two dead dogs lying in pools of their own blood," Calvo said.

Calvo said his mother-in-law is still recovering from the incident.

"She got the worst of it," Calvo said. "She was literally in the kitchen, cooking a lovely pasta dish, and they brought down the door and shot our dogs."

While he was being held, Calvo said, he told police he is the town's mayor, but they didn't believe him.

Berwyn Heights has its own police force, he said, but Prince George's County police did not notify the municipal authorities of their interest in his home or the package.

"They didn't know my name. All they knew was my wife's name. They matched that to the registration of the car," Calvo said. "It was that lack of communication that really led to what has really been the most traumatic experience of our lives."

After the raid, arrests were made in the package interception scheme.

The incident has prompted the couple to call for a federal investigation because, they say, they don't believe police are capable of conducting an internal investigation.

"They've said they've done nothing wrong," Calvo said. "I didn't sign up for this fight, but I think what we have to do now is make changes to how Prince George's County police and Prince George's County sheriff's department operate."

Calvo said authorities entered his home without knocking and refused to show him a warrant when he requested one.

But Prince George's County Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Taylor said legal counsel had informed her that "no-knock" warrants do not exist in Maryland. Video Watch authorities defend their actions »

Taylor said authorities were acting on a warrant issued based on information available to them at the time.

"This warrant was for permission to search the premises," she said. "The special operations team that supported us made a decision about the necessity of entry at the point of being on the scene."

"No-knock" warrants have drawn criticism before. In Atlanta, Georgia, Kathryn Johnston, 92, was shot to death by police in a botched drug raid involving such a warrant in November.

Taylor, a self-described dog lover, expressed sympathy for the loss of Calvo's dogs, but stopped short of apologizing for the incident.

"We've done these similar kinds of operations over and over again, to the tune of removing billions of dollars of drugs from the community and without people or animals being harmed," she said. "We don't want any of our operations to result in the injury or loss of anybody, and certainly not animals."

The deputies have said they killed the two animals because they felt threatened.

"I would say that the dogs presented a threat, I would imagine, to the special operations situation," Taylor said.

Meanwhile, Calvo and his wife said members of the community have expressed sympathy and concern about the incident.

At a news conference Thursday, Tomsic tearfully recalled a recent encounter with a neighbor who used to wave at the couple as they walked Payton and Chase.

"She gave me a big hug," Tomsic said. "She said, 'If the police shot your dogs dead and did this to you, how can I trust them?' "

Do not open a map and take pictures at the same time that would be a sure fire way to get busted.

Homeland Security Wants Your Help Spotting Terrorists

The Department of Homeland Security wants your help to prevent a terror attack in Las Vegas. But would you know what tell- tell signs to look for?

What would you think if you saw someone with a map and binoculars? Or if you saw that same person walking up and down the Strip? In a tourist environment, it all may seem normal. But these are just two of seven signs of possible terrorist activities.

These are things everyday people may spot and think -- it just doesn't seem right. That's why officials say your eyes can help derail a terrorists plan of attack.

The RJC is where you'll find Larry Threadgill -- pounding the pavement, passing out fliers. On these side walks of justice, you wouldn't believe the things he's seen. "From naked women, to guys trying to kill themselves."

From the street corner Threadgill has an up close view. "Being the observant person that I am, I watch them anyway."

Nevada's Department of Homeland Security says Threadgill's watchful eye makes him key to preventing terrorists attack in the valley. "The government thinks I could be apart of the first line of defense," said Threadgill. Shocking news to him -- because he wouldn't know what to look for.

UNLV'S Institute for Securities Study put together a DVD, "The Seven Signs of Terror" -- made for people who could help spot terrorist activity such as school police. The DVD lists what to look out for and gives a resource to call for help.

Ross Bryant works at the institute and says if this program would have been in place before 9/11, hospitality workers may have been able to spot the 9/11 hijackers. They came to town leading up to the attacks and stayed in a motel on the Strip.

"It is important that people who work in the industry, when they see something suspicious, they feel comfortable calling," he said. "Maybe that one incident doesn't bring actionable intelligence but that combined with other Intel can piece together the puzzle."

Although terror attacks aren't top of mind for most people, knowing what to look for is a wake up call for everyone.

The seven signs of terror are:

1. Surveillance -- watch out for people standing around surveying or taking video or pictures.

2. Information gathering -- be on the lookout for people requesting maps of blue prints of buildings.

3. Testing security -- terrorists may watch to see how long it takes emergency responders to get to a scene.

4. Planning

5. Suspicious behavior

6. Rehearsal -- terrorists may rehearse for the attack over and over so look out for that and

7. watch for people getting into positions that may not seem normal.

The DVD, "The Seven Signs of Terrorism" will be used throughout the state. Officials are making 20,000 copies in English and Spanish.

Food Storage

5 Quarts of Organic homemade applesauce

Tuesday I loaded up my old kona "Sunny" and we went apple pickin. I rode down to the rail trail and picked a bunch of apples. Three and a half Kroger bags. Joey and I spent the afternoon peeling and coring apples. Cooked up some apple sauce and canned it. 5 quarts of apple sauce for all those apples. wow they sure do cook down! I can't stand to see food go to waste. It is pretty amazing no one pays attention to the amount of fresh produce in the neighborhood. So soon I'll be making some more applesauce soon. It will be nice to have a little food storage when the price of food skyrockets this fall/winter.

On Saturday Joey and I went up to camp to get in some good riding and to relax. Sunday we rode up to Spruce Knob/Huckleberry Trail, picked Huckleberries. Finished up on Seneca creek trail and then hurried back to camp to do some more blueberry pickin with my mom and dad. 11 more lbs. Totaling about 38lbs of blueberries for the season. We how have a freezer full of blueberries, huckleberries, black raspberries, and blackberries. More jelly/jam making in the near future.

Law Professor: Counter Terrorism Czar Told Me There Is Going To Be An i-9/11 And An i-Patriot Act

Steve Watson
Infowars.net
Tues
day, August 5, 2008

Amazing revelations have emerged concerning already existing government plans to overhaul the way the internet functions in order to apply much greater restrictions and control over the web.

Lawrence Lessig, a respected Law Professor from Stanford University told an audience at this years Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference in Half Moon Bay, California, that “There’s going to be an i-9/11 event” which will act as a catalyst for a radical reworking of the law pertaining to the internet.

Lessig also revealed that he had learned, during a dinner with former government Counter Terrorism Czar Richard Clarke, that there is already in existence a cyber equivalent of the Patriot Act, an “i-Patriot Act” if you will, and that the Justice Department is waiting for a cyber terrorism event in order to implement its provisions.

Huckleberry Blues...

I love Huckleberry trail and huckleberries! To bad that in the very near future the area pictured below, in all its glory and splendor, will be off limits to mountain bikes. Equestrians will still be allowed to ride there trail destroying horses. Hikers will be allowed to trounce around with there unleashed dogs but mountain bikes will be restricted. WTF!!! All I could think about Sunday afternoon was, what gives those God Damned bureaucrats in Charleston the right to restrict a particular user group from public land. Then it dawned on me its just the beginning. Mountain bikers now, equestrian in five years, hikers in ten? Maybe. The area will be totally of limits, it will be re wilded. Go to google, type in UN biodiversity treaty. See what comes up. It will defiantly open your eyes to what wilderness areas are all about.

Peace, JOEY.

ps. remember an informed populace is harder to control.

Berries everywhere...

23Lbs of blueberries!

That is lots of blue. Mandi has already made 15 pints of jam.

Blackberry picking intervals. Ride up hill. Stop. Pick berries. Repeat.

More jam to come.

Riding has been pretty sporadic lately. Mandi and I are both nursing nagging injuries. We both seem to be feeling better and hope to get in some epic riding this weekend. Along with some more berry picking!

Peace, JOEY
