The Assassination of New York Governor Eliot Spitzer

Who Owns You?

Back on Track...

Neither Mandi or I rode much last week. Mandi had bronchitis and I wasn't much in the mood for riding. Mandi was feeling well enough on Friday to go for a ride. She got in a couple hours coughing her head off the entire time. Yesterday was much better. She didn't cough as much but still felt drained. We were planning on heading down to Pipestem Sunday for the first WVMBA race. Not so sure now. That's a long drive for a not so sweet course. Will see.

Update on the home selling front. The folks from Jersey want our house but were turned down for there loan. Imagine that. Banks are being very care full right now, with the sub prime mortgage meltdown taken place. 60,000 people have lost there homes in the last month. We have given up selling it on our own and contacted a realtor. Now I need to start looking for a job, I have almost exhausted my unemployment. What sounds better: do you want genetically modified spuds with that or welcome to walmart get your Chinese made shit and get out.

Working Class Hero - John Lennon

My most favorite song of all time. A song about the people who really make the world go round. We are just a bunch of servants living on a prison planet.

World Wide Economic Crisis...

The only man in congress that knows how to speak the truth.

system of a down- prison song

Did you know that America has a larger percentage of its people imprisoned than any other country in the world. A bigger precentage than China, Russia, Cuba. More than 80% of the folks who are in prison are there because of something that they did to themselves. They are not murders, rapists, robbers. They're simply people who are doing what they want with there own bodies. More laws=more law breakers. Are you sure you are living in a free country.

Stiff...

Mandi and I finally got in a couple good ss rides. The ss is a different sort of beast. Its harder but far more rewarding. My ss is now rigid, my Fox Fork shit the bed. Its shot and not worth fixing. I am going to stick with the rigid fork for now and see if my gimpy wrists can get used to it. Besides its prettier. We saw some bearded turkys yesterday, those freaks belong in the circus. We also saw a pretty black barn cat protecting the hay. I hope the great weather continues but I believe it may be ending today.

Do-that State Park...

Mandi, John and I made a quick trip down to Douthat State Park yesterday to do some riding. We met up there with Steve Hillllll and proceded to tear that place apart, not really. If you have never been to Douthat go, come on go, what are you waiting on. Let me lay it out for you: you go up and then down and then up and then down. Thats the race course there. Two lonnnnngggg climbs with two lonnnnnggggg descents. Its a pretty sweet place to ride. The trails always seem to be fairly dry no matter the time of year. Mandi and I were really wishing we took our geared bikes. We did a lot of bike walking yesterday. We got to see Steves newest wonder bike. A 21 lb C-dale Scalpel. He is trying to make it lighter! John got to try out his new ride yesterday to, a Trek EX 9 burly travel bike. We ran into a dude while riding yeaterday, Trip. He was a pretty swell chap, he had just relocated to VA from NJ and was digging the big climbs. Yesterday was a good day and a dramatic wake up call.

Cancel the Presidential Election!

Cancel the Presidential Election!

Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.

Nothing could be better for the country than cancelling the 2008 election. Leave the office of the presidency empty.

I can see only one possible justification for having a president of the United States: to preside over the dismantling of the federal government. If you think this is a radical idea, think again. This is, in part, what people have long voted for, even if they never actually get it. I can hardly remember a time when a president has been elected who didn’t promise to get the government off our backs.

In one way, this agenda makes no sense, of course. You don’t hire a CEO to drive a company into bankruptcy. You don’t appoint a pastor to shrink a congregation. Why should we expect a president to dismantle the thing that gives him power and fame, and his allies huge wealth? Well, realistically, you can’t. But it’s the best hope we have within the framework of conventional politics.

The irony is that most presidents get elected on the prospect that they will curb power. It was even true with George Washington, who had made innumerable speeches on the evil of tyranny only to take power and use it to the benefit of the powerful. Even Jefferson succumbed with his mistaken Louisiana Purchase, though he later entertained the possibility of a salutary breakup of the United States.

But it’s the best hope we have within the framework of conventional politics.

The irony is that most presidents get elected on the prospect that they will curb power. It’s true of George Bush, who promised domestic cuts and a humble foreign policy. Clinton was also elected on the promise of middle-class tax cuts. We can go back and back and see it was true for the first Bush, for Reagan, for Carter, for Nixon, and so on.

For that matter, FDR himself denounced government spending during this first campaign. "I accuse the present administration [Hoover’s] of being the greatest spending administration in peace times in all our history," and added, "On my part, I ask you very simply to assign to me the task of reducing the annual operating expenses of your national government." He further denounced the government for "fostering regimentation without stint or limit."

It was even true with George Washington, who had made innumerable speeches on the evil of tyranny only to take power and use it to the benefit of the powerful. Even Jefferson succumbed with his mistaken Louisiana Purchase, though he later entertained the possibility of a salutary breakup of the United States.

And so on it goes. And it will happen again, despite all promises.

Folks, there is something wrong with this model of governance, not just current policy but the whole structure. We might even argue that the error goes back to the Constitution, a document that created new government powers unprecedented in Colonial history, and put the government in charge of restraining itself. It set up competitive divisions within government under the presumption that they would keep each other in check. Instead, they cooperated toward mutual expansion, especially after the federal power seizure called the Civil War.

Sunshine...

Two days in a row. HOLYSHIT! First time in forever. It was defiantly needed. 52 degrees Sunday, 65 degrees on Monday. My white hairy legs were loving it. Mandi and I both got in a lot of bike practice the last three days. There is still a good bit of snow hanging around here in Randolph county. Lots of snow, slush, slop. We inadvertently did a little Civil War battle field tour on Sunday. We rode by the battle fields on top of Rich and the bottom of Laurel. My legs are sore and my butt hurts, good. All Mandi's and I's blogs will be going away except for ridealot. We will be posting about everything that interests us right here.
